It is created as a forum for discussion and sharing information about Arab cultures by DePaul University Arabic Studies students. We hope that it will allow students to publicly reflect on their learning about Arab cultures and engage in a meaningful dialogue with each other and interested students, scholars, and the general public to better understand Arabs and their culture. The students will be also expending the "Arab Culture" article on Wikipedia, adding content, and editing when needed. Please feel free to make suggestions for content or edits.

I want to expand on the topic of Arabic Literature because I took the Arab Literature class last year and I was really interested in it.

ReplyDeleteI would like to expand on the existing political systems because I am a political science major.
ReplyDeleteI think that the dynamic of the arab family is very interesting. Especially the role of the mother and loyalty in the extended family. It reminds me of "circling the wagons" in the old west.
ReplyDeleteI am interested in learning more about Arab female athletes possibly looking specifically at soccer. This topic really interests me because I myself am a female soccer player and I want to see the similarities and differences between our experiences.
ReplyDeleteAfter you look for resources for your topics, if you feel you need more references I will be happy to look up the subject in Arabic sources and let you know if I find critical information. This might be necessary, especially in areas not commonly researched, such as women soccer in the Arab world.

ReplyDeleteAt the beginning of the quarter, I initially wanted to expand my knowledge of the Arab culture, because despite studying the region throughout my college career I still believe I have much to learn. I have lived in Morocco for a summer, which defiantly helped understand the Arab/Muslim culture, but Moroccan culture greatly differs from the other regions of the Arab world. I would like to focus mostly on the culture in the context of modernity as well as socio-political elements. At the end of this quarter I would like to have a much more comprehensive understanding of the culture.
